Apply for a postal vote
The Bundestag election will take place on 28 September 2025. Anyone who is eligible to vote can vote in the polling station or apply for a postal vote.
Description
You can apply for postal voting documents in various ways. Please decide which method you prefer. You cannot submit an application over the phone!
We will be able to send out postal voting documents from mid-August 2025 at the earliest, regardless of how early you submit your application.
Please note: If the postal voting documents are to be sent to a different address, you must enter this address in addition to your home address.

You can apply for postal voting documents conveniently online from mid-August. - Apply by post
If you want to apply for postal voting documents by post, you can simply use the back of the election notification. Please send the application in good time so that there are no time problems with the return postage.
Alternatively, there is an application form available to download - around six months before the election. -
Collect in person
You can collect your postal voting documents in person from 8 September 2025. This is possible at the district administration department and at the district inspectorates. You will find the addresses on your election notification. Collection is possible until 26 September 2025, 6 pm. You can fill in the postal voting documents directly on site and drop them in a ballot box. -
Applying for postal voting documents with a proxy
If you would like to collect or apply for postal voting documents on behalf of another person, there are a few things to bear in mind. You can find information on this online.
If you apply for a postal vote: Take care of your polling card! You will not get a replacement if you lose it.
Prerequisites
All German citizens who are at least 18 years old on election day are eligible to vote
- are at least 18 years old,
- have resided in Germany for at least three months or are otherwise ordinarily resident there,
- and are not excluded from the right to vote.
Anyone who meets these requirements and is registered as having their main place of residence in Munich on 17 August 2025 will automatically be entered in the Munich electoral roll for the Bundestag election.
All Germans living abroad are also eligible to vote. However, they must submit an application for inclusion in the voters' register by 7 September. The application form and all other information can be found on the website of the Federal Returning Officer.
Please note:
All Germans living abroad must submit a new application for each Bundestag election.
