The run-off election for Lord Mayor will take place on 22 March 2026. Anyone who is eligible to vote can vote in the polling station or apply for a postal vote.
Course description
There are various ways to apply for a postal vote. Please choose one of them.
You cannot apply by telephone!
Postal voting packs will be sent out from 2 November 2026 at the earliest. This is regardless of when you submit your application.
Please note: If you would like the postal voting documents to be sent to a different address, please provide this address in addition to your home address.
- Applying online You can apply for postal voting documents online. This is possible from 12 October until 16 November 2026 at 11.00 am. From 16 November onwards, we recommend that you collect your postal voting documents in person. If we receive your application after this date, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the documents in time.
- Applying by post If you wish to request postal voting documents by post, please send your application well in advance. This will give you enough time to return them. You can use the application form. Please apply by 16 November 2026 at the latest if you wish to receive your postal voting documents by post. If we receive your application after this date, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the documents in time.
- Collect in person You can collect your postal voting documents in person from 2 November 2026. This can be done at the District Administration Office and at the Department for District Standards. You will find the relevant addresses on your polling card. You can collect them until 12 noon on 20 November. You can also vote on the spot and hand in your completed postal voting documents. - Applying for postal voting documents on behalf of another person If you wish to collect or apply for postal voting documents on behalf of another person, there are a few things to bear in mind.
Questions & Answers
Due to an amendment to the Bavarian Municipal and District Ordinance, postal voting packs may only be issued three weeks before the election date.
The Municipal and District Election Regulations fall within the remit of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Integration.
Even if you are abroad, you can vote by post. We will send the postal voting documents to your current address. Please provide the address where you are staying, in addition to your main residence in Munich.
Please note: Posting times to overseas destinations are often longer. This also applies to post sent from abroad.
Bear this in mind when applying for postal voting documents: you bear the risk of posting them abroad yourself!
If you have requested your postal voting documents but have not received anything after eight days, please contact the Electoral Office immediately. Please note that postal voting documents will only be sent out from 2 November onwards.
If you would like to receive your postal voting documents by post, please register by Monday 16 November 2026 at the latest. If we receive your application after this date, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the documents in time.
You can collect the documents from the District Administration Office and other postal voting collection points until 12 noon on Friday 20 November 2026.

If you wish to change your polling station, you must apply for a polling card with postal voting documents.
With this polling card, you can go to any polling station in Munich.
Please note: You cannot hand in your postal voting documents at our polling stations on polling day! However, you can vote at a polling station using the polling card (part of the postal voting documents) provided you have valid ID with you.
The completed postal voting documents must be received by the Electoral Office by 6.00 pm on election Sunday, 22 November 2026, at the latest.
