Children's circus

Children and young people from Munich can rehearse a gala performance in one-week circus workshops during the summer holidays.

Course description

Children’s Circus Attractions is a collaborative project between the Department for Social Affairs (City Youth Welfare Office / Holiday Programmes), the Munich City Youth Council, Spiellandschaft Stadt e. V., the Department for Education and Sport, the Sports Office – Leisure Sports, Circus TRAU DICH and ECHO e. V.

Over 600 full-day holiday care places and numerous drop-in activities are available to children and young people in this city during the summer. Over the course of a week, children and young people rehearse a gala performance with the help of trained care staff and a qualified circus troupe.

Registration and organisation of ‘Zirkus Simsala’ is handled by the Holiday Programmes/Family Pass department. All other circus attractions – ‘Nordini’, ‘Come along to India’ and the Riem Circus Days – are organised independently by the partner organisations. To register for these, please refer to the information in the programme for the relevant activity.

Priority booking for children with disabilities and support needs

Our philosophy of inclusion aims to prevent any form of exclusion and to give all children and young people the opportunity to participate, regardless of their gender, cultural and social background, or disability.

If your child requires support or has special needs, you can register them on a priority basis.

To ensure individualised support during the programme, we require the following information when booking via email: your preferred programme, the support required, the child’s age, and a brief but detailed description of the child’s developmental stage and behaviour. Through a consultation, we will work with you to find the most suitable programme.

Although not all holiday destinations are accessible, we endeavour to cater for individual needs and make participation possible.

The City Youth Welfare Office is committed to designing its programmes in such a way that they are equally accessible and usable for all children and young people.

Questions & Answers

All children and young people aged six and over who are resident in the Munich city area (postcodes 80*** – 81***).

You are welcome to register your child for several workshops.

You can find the programme booklet online on this page under ‘Links and Downloads’.

Circus Simsala offers workshops in stilt acrobatics, magic, unicycling, theatre hosting, clowning, rope skipping, ball walking, mini trampoline, tightrope walking and acrobatics.

As a rule, between ten and 14 children may take part in each workshop.

You can only register your child for the ballot to allocate places. Places are allocated by ballot.

You have the option to register your child for one or more workshops in a single draw. If your child is selected in the draw, they will be allocated a place on the workshop. If they are not selected, they will be placed on the waiting list for the chosen workshop in the order in which they were drawn. In any case, you will be notified after the draw has taken place as to whether your child has been allocated a place on the workshop or placed on the waiting list.

Please read the ‘How it works’ guide in the ‘Links and Downloads’ section before registering.

If your child or young person has increased support needs. For example, does your child have a physical or intellectual disability, or do they display behavioural difficulties that mean they require more or specialised support? In this case, please contact us by email or telephone. During a consultation, we will find a suitable option that caters specifically to your child’s needs. The registration period begins before the official prize draw period. Please refer to the programme booklet for the dates of the priority registration period.

The participation fee for a Circus Simsala workshop is 97 euros. If you are in receipt of benefits, the participation fee may be reduced to 17.50 euros. For those on a low or moderate income, the participation fee is 45 euros.
If a subsidy is granted due to receipt of benefits, a sibling discount is not available.

If several children from the same family take part in a holiday camp or the Simsala Circus, the youngest sibling is eligible for a 10 per cent discount and each additional child for a 20 per cent discount on the participation fee. Please complete the registration form accordingly.

Cancellations must always be made in writing! Please refer to our terms and conditions in the programme booklet for details of cancellation fees.

The children will be provided with a hot lunch, including salad and fruit, by a caterer on site. Drinks will also be provided.

The meal options always include a vegetarian choice.

You can drop off and collect your children and teenagers from the venue, or, with written consent, they can come and go home on their own.

Please refer to the information sheet or the separate packing list that you will receive with your confirmation of registration.

In the event of illness or an accident, the team leaders will contact the parents by telephone immediately. For this reason, it is essential that you can be reached by telephone by our team at all times!

Throughout the camp, a full-time educational specialist from the City Youth Welfare Office is on 24-hour on-call duty. They are available to the care team round the clock.

The City Youth Welfare Office employs supervisors who help ensure that children and young people enjoy varied and relaxing holidays. They look after the children on an individual basis, as far as this is possible within the framework of the holiday camp, and contact the parents in the event of any complications.
As a last resort, we unfortunately have to send home any children or young people who are unable to fit into the group or who significantly disrupt the group. Parents will be contacted in advance and kept informed of events on site. Parents or their authorised representatives must be contactable by the City Youth Welfare Office during the holiday programme and are obliged to collect their children in such cases.
