Enter technical modifications in vehicle documents
You must report any technical modifications to your vehicle to the vehicle registration authority so that it can amend the vehicle documents.
Description
Some examples of technical modifications are:
- Fitting a catalytic converter or particulate reduction system
- Changes to the vehicle class
- Changes to engine capacity or power output
- Increase/reduction in the maximum speed specified by the vehicle design
- Changes to the permissible axle loads, gross vehicle weight, payload, fifth-wheel load, trailer load and towing capacity
The fitting of a particulate reduction system affects the emission class and the right to enter so-called low-emission zones.
Required documents
- Registration Certificate Part I (Vehicle Registration Document)
- Certificate of Registration, Part II (Vehicle Title)
- Proof of a valid general inspection
- For commercial vehicles: safety inspection
- Confirmation/certificate of acceptance regarding the fitting or removal of components by an officially recognised expert or a motor vehicle inspector
- Type approval from the Federal Motor Transport Authority
