Project funding for cultural projects on World Women's Day

The Cultural Department awards project funding for creative projects that strengthen feminist perspectives in culture.

Course description

What sort of projects can be submitted?

Applications may be submitted for projects across all cultural and artistic disciplines, as well as for various analogue and digital event formats. The projects should engage artistically with current (queer) feminist issues, taking different perspectives into account. Ideas that focus on positive empowerment are particularly welcome. Applications may also be submitted for cultural projects taking place as part of International Women’s* Day on 8 March.

Important note

Important note

Application periods

Applications may be submitted from October 2026 until 15 September 2027. The processing time is at least 8 weeks; you should plan your project accordingly and apply well in advance.

Online consultation sessions available in German and English

Due to staff shortages, individual consultations are not available. Please read the FAQs below.

Prerequisites

Eligibility criteria for applications

  • There must be a significant FLINTA* involvement
  • Applicants must live or work in Munich (S-Bahn area)
  • The project promotes positive (queer) feminist ideas
  • The project takes place in 2027
  • The project meets the funding criteria of the Department of Culture

In addition to the funding criteria and a plausible project description, selection criteria include a clear strategy for reaching diverse target groups. Project proposals that strengthen networking within the field and are implemented in cooperation with other initiatives, associations and/or institutions are particularly welcome. In this case, please enclose with your application a confirmation from the cooperation partner and a description of the collaboration or the division of responsibilities. Funding from other donors (third-party funding/co-financing) may be included in the project. For applications totalling 5,000 euros or more, we expect co-funding from other sources. The higher the amount, the higher the co-funding should be.

Required documents

Mandatory

  • a fully completed and signed application for project funding
  • a specific, clear description of the project (you must answer all the questions on page 3 of the application form mentioned above)
  • a cost and funding plan setting out all expenditure and income. Please ensure your planning is realistic (see also: Guidance on Fair Fees).
  • If you have applied for co-funding that has not yet been approved, please provide a description of the worst-case scenario, for example programme cuts.

Questions & Answers

Please note that the funds cannot be paid out until early 2027 at the earliest. Please factor this into your project timeline. If your project is awarded funding, please bear in mind that the funds will not be paid out automatically. You will need to submit a ‘funds request’ to us, which can be done informally, for example by email. You will find detailed information on this in the grant notification letter, which you will receive by post once your project has been approved.

Yes, definitely. We decide on funding on a first-come, first-served basis and only have a limited amount of funding available. In previous years, between ten and fourteen projects have been funded, so it’s a good idea to submit your application early.

Please answer the twelve questions on page 3 of the application form as specifically and concisely as possible. If certain points are still unclear, please state them – this is the only way we’ll know you haven’t overlooked them. Keep your answers factual.
Tip: Have someone else proofread your application to check that your project is presented clearly.

No. Due to staff shortages, there will be no separate #sieinspiriertmich call for proposals at present. Cultural projects to be held as part of International Women’s* Day on 8 March should be applied for here under ‘Feminist Cultural Projects’.

The internet offers a number of options and video tutorials on how to merge documents and PDFs, as well as how to reduce their size or compress them. Please use these programmes, compress image files as much as possible, or omit them altogether. You also have the option of submitting your documents in hard copy by post.

Yes, once your project is complete, you are required to draw up a substantive report detailing the implementation of your project and a financial statement accounting for all project expenditure. You must collect and retain all invoices, receipts and relevant documents that provide evidence of how the funds were spent. The Department of Culture has the unrestricted right to audit these records.
The substantive report should provide a comprehensive account of the project’s progress, the objectives achieved and the collaboration with partners. Further details on the requirements can be found in the information you receive with your grant notification.

You must also prepare a factual report. This should contain a comprehensive account of the project’s progress, the objectives achieved and the collaboration with partners. Further details on the requirements can be found in the information you received with your grant notification.

If your artistic work is primarily based in Munich, then yes. Please include an explanation, supporting evidence or similar documentation with your application. This evidence can take various forms, for example a list of past projects in Munich, an artistic CV, a studio or office tenancy agreement, a personal statement or confirmation from the Munich-based initiative in which you are actively involved.

FLINTA* is an acronym. It stands for women, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people. The acronym exists in various forms; the asterisk at the end is intended to include further variations of gender diversity.

If you’re looking for a venue, make use of the listings on our website. Get in touch directly with those responsible for the venues.

Legal basis

The grants are awarded through administrative channels (i.e. without a jury procedure). Applicants for the selected projects will be informed in December. There is no legal entitlement to funding.
