Extension of temporary driving licence classes
The driving licences for HGVs (C classes) and buses (D classes) are only valid for a limited period. You must apply to us for an extension in good time.
Description
Since the introduction of the new driving licence categories on 1.1.1999, the driving licence categories for trucks and buses have only been issued for a limited period. You must apply to the local driving licence authority or municipality to extend the period of validity. No driving licence test is required for the extension. However, the driving licence authority will check your physical aptitude. A new driving licence is issued when the licence is extended.
Driving licences for categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE are issued or extended for a maximum of five years.
You can apply to extend your truck/bus driving licence in writing or online. You can submit the application for renewal six months before the expiry date.
