Questions & Answers
Under the current Federal Registration Act, it is the responsibility of the Citizens’ Bureau to provide information from the register of residents.
To a limited extent. You have the option of applying to the Citizens’ Office for disclosure restrictions. However, these only prevent your data from being passed on to specific bodies. In principle, basic information from the register of residents can still be provided. More detailed data, such as that provided in an extended extract from the register of residents, is only supplied to those requesting information who can demonstrate a legitimate interest. A complete ban on the disclosure of your data to private individuals is only possible in exceptional cases (Sections 51 and 52 of the Federal Registration Act). Any disclosure of your data is always carried out in accordance with the legal provisions of the Registration Act.
The Citizens’ Office discloses registration data in accordance with statutory provisions and in compliance with data protection regulations. It is one of the Citizens’ Office’s duties to transfer data to other authorities or public bodies where this is necessary for the lawful fulfilment of those bodies’ duties.
Furthermore, the Citizens’ Office is permitted to provide so-called ‘group information’ where this is in the public interest. However, it is also possible that your address may have been passed on via other channels, such as through the citizens’ information service of the Bavarian Municipal Data Processing Agency (AKDB).
