Emergency assistance for residence permits - employees, relatives
Are you an employee or a family member who does not have a valid residence permit and needs help due to an emergency?
Description
Only verified emergencies will be processed.
What is an emergency? An emergency is an unforeseeable situation in which a document is required immediately, as failure to do so would result in harm. This applies in the following cases:
- Imminent loss of employment
- Imminent loss of benefits (such as unemployment benefit)
- Urgent travel for personal or professional reasons within the next seven days (e.g. business trip, illness, bereavement)
The Service Centre for Immigration and Naturalisation will assess and decide whether an emergency exists.
Please do not come without an appointment ! Appointments cannot be made on the spot, nor are queue numbers issued. New appointments are made available Monday to Friday in the morning and at lunchtime, 10 minutes before opening hours begin. Appointments for the following week appear in the booking system throughout the week. If you cannot book an appointment online, please call our helpline to arrange one.
Asylum proceedings
Are you currently going through or have you completed an asylum procedure, are you entitled to asylum, a refugee or entitled to subsidiary protection?
In that case, in emergencies you can visit the Service Point at Ruppertstraße 19 (Entrance A), Area 21 on the 2nd floor, without an appointment:
Monday 7.30 am – 12 noon Tuesday 8.30 am – 12 noon and 2 pm – 6 pm Thursday 8.30 am – 3 pm Friday 7.30 am – 12 noon

Requirements
You belong to one of the following groups and are a foreign national:
- Employees with vocational training
- Other workers (such as volunteers or au pairs)
- Academics and researchers
- Highly skilled workers (e.g. EU Blue Card holders)
- Self-employed
- Family members of the above-mentioned groups
- Family members of persons entitled to asylum, refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection
- People with permanent residence permits
Required documents
- Valid passport or passport substitute
- Current residence permit
- Completed confirmation of the emergency

No. You can send documents via our online form or by post. You can also drop documents in our letterbox at Ruppertstraße 19, Entrance A.
No. No other services (e.g. change of job or the issue/renewal of a residence permit) are processed at the emergency counter. This is only possible via our online services or by post.
