Prognos Zukunftsatlas 2025

How well are German regions and cities equipped for transformation processes? Munich proves itself to be future-proof and ranks third in the Zukunftsatlas.

A strong, innovative location with excellent future prospects

The Prognos Zukunftsatlas ranking determines the future opportunities and risks of all 400 regions and independent cities in Germany. Munich once again is shown as one of the strongest business locations and performs particularly well in the areas of labor market, as well as competition and innovation. Overall, it ranks third among the regions with the best future prospects.

Based on 31 macroeconomic and socioeconomic indicators assigned to the four thematic areas of demography, labor market, competition and innovation, as well as prosperity and social situation, the Prognos Zukunftsatlas determines how well regions are positioned for the future. It is thus a key tool for shaping future-oriented strategy processes and serves as a compass for identifying regional opportunities and risks. It is compiled every three years by the renowned economic institute Prognos.

Munich impresses in “labor market” and “competition and innovation"

The City of Munich performs particularly well in the areas of labor market as well as competition and innovation. Indicators such as start-up intensity, industrial investment ratio, patent intensity, employees in future-oriented fields, and much more are taken into account here. In addition, the location itself proves to be extremely strong and regional development highly dynamic. The ranking is led by the whole region of Munich, which once again speaks for the economic strength of the entire region.
