The City of Munich is committed to close cooperation with India. At the German Indian Business Forum, held at the Old Town Hall, representatives from business, politics, and academia came together to strengthen existing partnerships and initiate new collaborations. The key topics included future-oriented fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, energy and the environment, aerospace, and health technologies.
Mayor Verena Dietl welcomed the guests on behalf of the City of Munich. Mayor Dominik Krause, together with Dr. Markus Söder and Hubert Aiwanger, served as a patron of the forum.
A Longstanding Partnership with a Promising Future
Relations between Munich and India take many forms: Indian companies invest in Munich, researchers collaborate, students come to Munich, and skilled professionals build their careers here. The Indian community also contributes to the city’s international character. Around 17,500 Indian nationals live in Munich, and more than 80 Indian companies have established a presence in the city.
India is also an important market for Bavarian businesses: more than 1,500 Bavarian companies work with Indian partners. These economic ties provide a strong foundation for further expanding cooperation.
In 2026, Germany and India celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. Against the backdrop of global challenges and difficult economic conditions, the partnership is becoming increasingly important. For Munich, India is a key partner in expanding international economic relations and advancing innovation together.
Munich as an International Business and Innovation Hub
Munich is one of Europe's leading business and innovation hubs. International companies, research institutions, universities, start-ups, and skilled professionals create an environment that encourages cross-border cooperation. The City of Munich aims to further strengthen the conditions for international businesses and help ensure that international professionals feel welcome in Munich, both professionally and personally.
Connecting Beyond Business and Academia
Keynote speeches, panel discussions, and practical examples from the fields of technology, energy, and aerospace highlighted opportunities for bilateral trade and joint innovation projects. The exchange provided an opportunity to strengthen existing contacts and establish new partnerships.
Beyond the professional program, the event also offered space for personal interaction and cultural exchange. A reception featuring music, dance, and Indian cuisine brought the event to a close, underscoring the importance of intercultural dialogue in relations between Munich and India.
