Replacement driving licence after loss or theft

If your German driving licence has been lost or stolen, you can only apply for a replacement licence online or in writing.

Description

Notes on collection:

You will always receive the new card driving licence as a replacement driving licence. The driving licence is produced centrally by the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin. As soon as we have it, it can be sent to you by post at no extra cost.

You can only submit the application in writing or online.

Please complete the application form in full, sign it and send it to us together with the required documents.

Prerequisites

  • You are registered as having your main residence in Munich.

Required documents

  • Fully completed and signed application form. Please enclose the required documents with the application.
  • Identity card or passport
  • biometric passport photo
  • Declaration of loss or theft report (issued by a German police station)
  • only for old German driving licences (grey or pink) that were not issued by the driving licence authority of the City of Munich: a copy of the index card, which you can request by telephone from the authority that issued your driving licence. From there, the file card copy should be sent directly to the driving licence authority in Munich.
