Merchandise displays in front of shops
Anyone wishing to set up merchandise displays in front of their shop requires a special use permit.
Description
If you want to set up merchandise displays in front of your shop, you need a special use permit.
As a rule, you will receive a permit for fruit, vegetables, tropical fruit, flowers, newspapers, magazines, postcards, books, visual and audio media or handicraft items. For other goods, we will check on a case-by-case basis whether a permit is possible.
Requirements
- The items are part of your shop's product range.
- The display is located in front of your shop, directly on the building.
- The display is a maximum of two metres high.
- Clothing mannequins may only be used to display clothing and may not be used solely as eye-catchers.
- The goods may not be placed directly on the pavement.
- The items (individually or in total) are not bulky or large in size (e.g. no furniture, suitcases, drinks crates, fridges).
- The townscape is not impaired (especially in the case of listed or ensemble-protected buildings).
- The passage width to be left free (remaining footpath width) must be at least 160 cm for pure footpaths, at least 190 cm for adjacent cycle paths and at least 230 cm for sloping or perpendicular car parks.
- No free samples are distributed and no sales take place in front of the shop.
- During shop closing times, goods displays must be removed from the public highway. Therefore, goods displays can only be authorised if there are storage facilities within the business premises.
The district committee responsible for the district in question decides on the display of goods. Only after the district committee has made its decision will you receive written authorisation or rejection from the district inspectorate of the district administration department.
Merchandise displays must be cleared away at night. Merchandise displays must not be firmly anchored to the floor.
