Have technical modifications entered in the vehicle documents

You must report technical modifications to your vehicle to the vehicle registration authority so that they can correct the vehicle documents.

Description

Some examples of technical modifications are

  • Installation of a catalytic converter or particle reduction system
  • Changes to the vehicle class
  • Change in engine capacity or power
  • Increase/reduction of the maximum speed determined by the type of construction
  • Changes to the permissible axle loads, the total weight, the payload, the fifth-wheel load, the trailer load, the towed load

The installation of a particle reduction system has an influence on the pollutant class and on the authorisation to drive in so-called environmental zones.

Required documents

  • Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
  • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
  • Proof of valid general inspection
  • For commercial vehicles: safety inspection
  • Confirmation/acceptance of installation or removal by an officially recognised expert or an inspector for motor vehicle traffic
  • Type approval from the Federal Motor Transport Authority
