Deregistering a vehicle without registration certificate I or vehicle registration document

You want to deregister a vehicle for which the registration certificate part I (ZB I) or the vehicle registration document has been stolen or lost.

Course description

If you want to deregister your vehicle but have lost the registration certificate part I (formerly: vehicle registration document), you must apply for a new document at the registration authority where the vehicle is registered.

At the registration office in Eichstätter Straße, all licence plates with "M" (for Munich City), all "MUC" licence plates and all foreign licence plates that have been re-registered to Munich (City) can be deregistered with a registration certificate part I or vehicle registration document loss.

For vehicles from the district of Munich, please contact the district office.

If your vehicle is not registered in Munich (city), you must contact the registration office where it is registered.

Prerequisites

You can notify us of the loss in person or submit a theft report from a German police station.

Required documents

  • Identity card or passport
  • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document), if this is still available.

If the registration certificate Part II (ZB II) is held by the bank or leasing company, we require written confirmation (also by e-mail or fax) from the bank or leasing company with the ZB II number, licence plate number or vehicle identification number for the reissue of the registration certificate Part I.

  • For legal entities, companies and associations: Extract from the commercial or association register (not older than three years from issue) and business registration.
  • For authorised representatives: You must present the personal declaration of loss of the vehicle owner. You will then need a written power of attorney (original) as well as an ID of the authorised representative (original) and an ID of the person granting the power of attorney (copy).
  • In the case of minors, a declaration of consent from the legal guardian is also required. If only one parent has parental authority, this must be proven by a custody order or a court judgement.
  • In the case of guardianship for "official and administrative matters": Carer's identity card.
  • If you have filed a theft report with the police, please bring this with you.
