Transport of oversized loads - exemption authorisation

For journeys where loads with excess width, height or length are to be transported, you require a special authorisation.

Overwidth:

  • if the vehicle and load together are more than 2.55 metres wide

Excess height:

  • if the vehicle and load together are more than 4 metres high

Excess length:

  • if the vehicle and load together are over 20.75 metres long
  • if the load protrudes more than 0.5 metres to the front
  • if the load protrudes more than 1.5 metres to the rear (or more than 3 metres for distances of less than 100 kilometres)

Notes

  • We will check whether the route you have applied for is passable with the specified transport dimensions.
  • If necessary, we will impose conditions to secure the transport or to protect other road users. Please also refer to the Internet information provided by the Munich traffic police.
  • The transport company is obliged to check the route immediately before starting the transport. If a temporary stopping ban is required on parked-up sections of road in the city area, please refer to the information on the Internet under "Requesting a temporary stopping ban".
  • If the load protrudes more than 1 metre to the rear, it must be marked.

Prerequisites

  • Munich is the registered office of the company or branch office or
  • Munich is the place of departure (loading) of the journey requiring authorisation.

This must be entered in the commercial, co-operative or partnership register.
