Driving licence at 17

Young people from the age of 17 can obtain a category B and BE driving licence and may then drive with a registered accompanying person until the age of 18.

Description

Once you have submitted your application in writing, we will process your application and check the accompanying person(s). If the requirements are met, we will issue the test order to the relevant test centre, where your driving school can obtain information. If you are already 17 years old on the day of the test and have only applied for category B, you will receive the test certificate from the examiner immediately after passing the test, which authorises you to drive.
If you have applied for a driving licence for more than one category or are not yet 17 years old, you will only receive a confirmation from the examiner that you have passed the test (theory and practice), which you must present to the driving licence authority. There you will receive the examination certificate.

Only now are you authorised to drive a motor vehicle, provided that one of the persons listed on the test certificate is in the vehicle with you.

The test certificate is valid until you reach the age of 18, but can be used for a maximum of three months thereafter.

Once you have reached the age of 18 and successfully passed the theoretical and practical test, you will usually receive your EU driving licence by post from the driving licence authority of the City of Munich.

If you deregister your place of residence in Munich before your 18th birthday, please contact the driving licence authority responsible for your new place of residence to order your driving licence.

There are no additional fees for postal delivery.

If postal delivery is not possible in individual cases, you will be informed in writing when your driving licence is ready for collection.

It is possible to collect the licence in person or by proxy, for which you will need your written authorisation, your passport or identity card and an identification document of the authorised person.
