Temporary passport

If you need a passport immediately and even the express procedure would take too long, you can apply for a temporary passport in urgent cases.

Anyone travelling outside the European Union needs a passport.

Anyone whose main place of residence is in Munich must report the loss or theft of their passport to the Citizens Office.

Second passport, other passports

As a rule, you may only hold one valid German passport. For an exception (second passport, several passports) you must prove your legitimate interest.

German citizens are required to have a valid identity card (or passport) as soon as they reach the age of 16.

If you move within Munich, move to Munich or your address has changed, you should have the address changed in your identity documents.

If you do not have a passport or passport replacement, the Foreigners Office can issue you with a travel document for foreigners in individual cases.

Children with at least one German parent automatically acquire German citizenship at birth, regardless of their place of birth.

If you are stateless, the Service Centre for Immigration and Naturalisation can issue you with a travel document for stateless persons in individual cases.

If you have been recognised by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees as a person entitled to subsidiary protection, you will receive a residence permit.

Residence permit - refugee status and travel document for refugees

If you have been recognised as a refugee under the Geneva Refugee Convention, you will receive a residence and travel permit for refugees.

Reduced MVV monthly ticket (monthly ticket S)

If you have a München-Pass, you can purchase a discounted monthly ticket (Monatskarte S) for the MVV. The ticket is available at all points of sale.

Change personal data in the population register

Your personal details have changed following a marriage, divorce or change of name abroad. You must have this entered in the register of residents.

Apply for a hunting licence

With a hunting licence, you are allowed to hunt and purchase hunting weapons in Germany. In addition, you always require the authorisation of the respective hunting ground owner.

Small firearms licence

If you wish to carry a gas, alarm or signal weapon in public, you must apply for a small firearms licence.

Transfer of service driving licence

Anyone who has a service driving licence from the German armed forces, police or the Federal Border Guard can have this converted into a (civilian) driving licence.

Many destination countries require a veterinary health certificate for entry with a pet (dogs, cats, ferrets, birds).
