Promotion of concert projects with new music

Description

The Department of Culture of the City of Munich supports the independent scene for new and experimental music in Munich and its projects with relevant programme focuses. Funding is provided for projects in Munich involving Munich-based artists. The term ‘new music’ encompasses all forms of contemporary classical and experimental music. Projects in the fields of sound art, improvisation, and electronic and electroacoustic music are also supported within the broader context of new music.

This funding is intended to support individual concerts and concert series, small festivals, as well as a variety of other event formats.

The Department of Culture wishes to help ensure that musicians of all genders play a part in shaping the Munich music scene. To date, men have been over-represented. This call for applications is therefore expressly aimed at people of all genders.

How to apply:

Applications for grants of less than 1,000 euros may be submitted at any time; there are no deadlines. For grants between 1,000 euros and 10,000 euros, the following deadlines apply:

Requirements

The following are eligible to apply for project funding:

• Professional musicians and composers residing in the MVV catchment area or whose work is primarily based in Munich
• Groups of musicians, associations, initiatives and organisations within Munich’s independent music scene for new and/or experimental music.

Funding criteria

The general funding criteria of the Department of Culture apply to these projects.

Further important selection criteria are:

• The programme’s content consists largely of works of new music and/or experimental music. Composers and musicians are appropriately represented.
• The musical quality must meet professional standards.
• Musicians and composers from Munich are significantly involved in the programme.
• Creative approaches, for example with regard to programme design, the performance venue and audience development, are particularly welcome.
• The following are not eligible to apply: institutions receiving institutional funding

Unfortunately, music theatre projects or primarily staged projects cannot be funded. Applications for such projects must be submitted to the theatre funding programme.

For projects with an interdisciplinary approach, please contact the relevant staff members in the Music Team (sandra.dachsel@muenchen.de, heike.lies@muenchen.de) in advance to clarify which call for proposals is suitable for you.

Only projects that have not yet commenced at the time of application are eligible for funding. The start date for any potential funding is the date of the initial application to the Department of Culture. The timeframe specified here should not be based solely on the event date, but on the entire project duration, including preparation and follow-up periods. Only expenditure incurred during this period can be recognised.

• a description of the planned measures to promote the project

All documents must be summarised in a PDF and received by the respective closing date of 11.59 p.m. by e-mail to neuemusik@muenchen.de in the Cultural Department. The PDF must not exceed 5 MB in size and must be named as follows: Surname_Project title

Legal basis

By submitting an application, the applicant agrees to the conditions of the call for applications and confirms that he/she is resident in the MVV catchment area and that his/her main place of work is in Munich. Applications that do not comply with the conditions of the call for applications will not be considered and the grants will be awarded by administrative means (i.e. without a jury procedure). We will inform you of the success of your application as soon as possible (usually within one month of the closing date).

Data protection information in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation
The Cultural Department of the City of Munich collects, processes and uses the personal and project-related data required for the entire funding procedure in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation and the Bavarian Data Protection Act as amended; in particular, this data is passed on to the city departments involved in the grant procedure. In the event of funding, the first and last name, amount of the grant, project name and project content may be published in public city council resolutions and on www.muenchen.de.
