International student programme

Description

Through our exchange and cultural immersion programmes, you can acquire important key skills, develop your personality and deepen your understanding of social and political issues. There are two types of exchange to choose from:

• Reciprocal exchange with a stay with a host family: During your two-week stay abroad, you will live with a host family and take part in the official programme as a group during the day. As well as sightseeing and day trips, the programme also includes workshops on topics relating to social, cultural and political education. At the weekends, you’ll spend your free time with your host family. During the two-week return visit, you’ll give your host an insight into your everyday school life and let them share in your family life. An exchange with Cincinnati, USA, takes place annually. Further exchange opportunities are published on our website as they become available.
• Bi- and multinational encounters: You’ll come together with other young people from different countries in one place. There, you’ll work together on projects, take part in workshops and tackle various challenges. A youth encounter usually lasts between four and ten days. You can find out which projects are currently on offer on our website.

Stays abroad usually take place during the Bavarian school holidays, whilst return visits to Munich generally take place outside the school holidays.

Your school will prepare you for the exchange and support you throughout.

Requirements

• You attend a school in the Munich area, regardless of the type of school.
• You are aged between 15 and 17. If there are few applicants, suitable pupils who are younger or older may also take part.

Required documents

• Application form: Complete the online application form for your chosen programme.
• Statement of purpose: Please email us your statement of purpose in German or English. In this one-page document, please answer the following questions: Why do you want to take part in this particular programme? How do you intend to play an active role in shaping the programme? What can you contribute to the programme’s success?
• School reference: Ask a teacher to complete the reference form and send it to us as a scan by email or by fax. In the reference, your teacher will provide an initial assessment of you as a person. The teacher will also confirm that your school supports your application and is aware of it.
