Register sale of goods in favour of charitable causes
Anyone wishing to sell goods temporarily on public land for a charitable purpose requires a special use permit.
Description
Only non-profit organisations can obtain a special use permit. Sales may be carried out throughout the entire city area and are limited to 24 sales days per non-profit organisation per year.
In the Old Town pedestrian zone, only the locations at Neuhauser Straße 10, Sendlinger Straße 62 and Tal 11 will be allocated.
Deadlines:
The sale of goods for charitable purposes should be registered eight weeks before the planned date. Applications are accepted a maximum of six months before the possible date. If there are several applications for one location at this time, the applicants will be selected by lot.
Permission for the so-called Christmas collection:
In the pre-Christmas period, only the location at Neuhauser Straße 10, or an alternative location on Neuhauser Straße if it is not available, will be allocated in the area covered by the Old Town pedestrian zone bylaws.
Please note the following:
- Applications for the non-profit sale of goods at Neuhauser Straße 10 in the run-up to Christmas (start of the Munich Christmas Market until 24 December) must be received by the KVR by 30 June of the respective year. The organisations that are selected will be drawn by lot.
- The location will be allocated to each organisation for one week (Monday to Sunday); in the weeks at the beginning and end of the Christmas market, the duration will be shortened accordingly.
- Sales are possible during the opening hours of the Christmas market: Monday to Saturday 10am to 9pm, Sunday 10am to 8pm, Christmas Eve 10am to 2pm.
- The sale of drinks for immediate consumption is permitted.
- The city does not provide any necessary electricity or a stand. If you need electricity for your sale, you can contact Stadtwerke München.
During the pre-Christmas period (start of the Munich Christmas Market until 24 December), the Tal 11 location will not be allocated. During this period, the Neuhauser Straße 10 location is allocated by calendar week. The closing date for applications is 30 June of the respective year.
Prerequisites
- Only textiles and packaged food may be sold, and in the pre-Christmas period also drinks for immediate consumption
- The maximum stand size is nine square metres
- Only members and employees of the non-profit organisation may sell goods

Questions & Answers
Yes, if you want to sell a calendar week in the run-up to Christmas, you may therefore have used a maximum of 17 days for sales during the year.
Stand spaces are allocated according to the number of applications received. The earliest application deadline is six months before the desired date. If an application is received before this deadline, it will be treated as if it had been submitted six months before the date. If several applications are received at the same time or by the deadline, a lot will be drawn between the applicants, provided that their annual repertoire of 24 days has not yet been used up.
Allocation of stands in the run-up to Christmas (see below)
The allocation for the Neuhauser Straße 10 location is done by lottery on a weekly basis. All applicants who have submitted a complete application before the deadline (30 June) and still have a sufficient number of days available from their annual repertoire will take part in the lottery.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to allocate the Tal location in the run-up to Christmas. All other locations will be allocated after receipt of the application (see above).
Note:
Since 2008, a licence is no longer required to carry out collections covered by the Bavarian Collection Act.
However, the police and security authorities can still intervene against collections that disrupt public safety and order.
