Export licence plate

If you want to take your vehicle abroad permanently, you need an export licence plate. This (international registration) can be issued for a maximum of one year.

Description

Please note that you cannot obtain the yellow insurance certificate for export licence plates from us. Please contact an insurance company in advance.

Prerequisites

  • You are registered with your main residence in Munich
    or
  • You are staying in Munich (without residence in Germany)
  • In individual cases, it may be necessary to present the vehicle

Required documents

  • Identity card or passport
  • Do you have a foreign identity document without a signature? Then you can also submit a copy of your driving licence. The driving licence must contain a photograph and a signature and you must be registered in Munich or abroad.
  • For legal entities, companies and associations: Extract from the commercial or association register (not older than 3 years from issue) and business registration
  • For representatives: written power of attorney (original) as well as ID of the authorised representative (original) and ID of the principal (original)
  • Declaration of consent from the vehicle owner that the vehicle tax circumstances may be disclosed to the authorised representative.
  • fully completed SEPA mandate of the vehicle owner/account holder
  • yellow insurance certificate for export licence plates

  • Registration certificate part I (previously vehicle registration document)
  • Registration certificate part II (previously vehicle registration document)
  • Licence plates (not required if the vehicle has been taken out of service)
  • Test report on a valid general inspection (for the entire term of the export licence)
  • For lorries: safety inspection

What do I do with the licence plate when it is no longer valid?

The licence plate belongs to the owner, who can dispose of it or keep it.

Apply for a temporary licence plate

Short-term licence plates are national licence plates that are only permitted for test and transfer journeys within Germany. They are valid for a maximum of six days.

Licence plates for electric vehicles (e-license plates)

For certain electric vehicles, you can apply for a so-called e-licence plate for electric vehicles.

100 km/h sticker for authorised trailers

You can apply for a 100 km/h sticker for trailers if the suitability is proven according to the registration certificate or COC document.
