If you wish to install a well to irrigate your private garden with groundwater, you must give at least one month's notice.

Course description

If the work is not prohibited within one month of receipt of the notification with the complete documentation, the project may commence in accordance with the submitted planning.

No further authorisation is required for the use of groundwater via the constructed garden well.

Required documents

The documents should preferably be submitted digitally.

  • Completed and signed notification form (see "Links and documents")
  • Site plan with entry of the well location (e.g. from BayernAtlas)

In Munich, certain trees are specially protected by the Tree Protection Ordinance. These trees may only be cut down or pruned with authorisation.

Water law permit - geothermal probe/ geothermal collector

A permit under water law is required for the construction of a geothermal system (probe, collector, baskets or similar) with groundwater contact.

Report tree damage (during construction work)

If trees are damaged without authorisation, owners or polluters can be obliged to restore or plant replacement trees.

Drilling and working in groundwater

Work that penetrates so deeply into the ground that groundwater could be encountered must be reported at least one month before the planned start of work.
