Commercial waste collection and transport

Description

​Anyone wishing to collect, transport, trade in or act as a broker for hazardous waste on a commercial basis, as defined in the Waste Catalogue Regulation (AVV), generally requires a licence under Section 54 of the Circular Economy Act (KrWG).

Note on the waste management activities ‘collection’ and ‘transport’:

In the case of the waste management activities of collection and transport, these may be

• carried out on a commercial basis, in which case the activity involving hazardous waste always requires a permit, or
• the activities of collection and transport are carried out within the framework of commercial enterprises, in which case a notification under waste management law pursuant to Section 53 of the KrWG is also required for hazardous waste.

Anyone wishing to collect, transport, trade in or act as a broker for non-hazardous waste as defined in the Waste Catalogue Ordinance must submit a notification under waste legislation in accordance with Section 53 of the KrWG before commencing the activity.

The authority checks the reliability and professional competence of the applicants and of the persons responsible for management and supervision.

Waste management activities may only commence once a licence has been granted in accordance with Section 54 of the KrWG.

Note:

Commercial collectors and transporters are obliged, when transporting waste on public roads, to carry a copy of the licence granted under Section 54 of the KrWG and to affix so-called ‘A’ signs to their vehicles ( Section 55(1) of the KrWG ). These must comply with the requirements of Section 10 of the Waste Shipment Act (AbfVerbrG).
