Business re-registration

If the location or type of your business changes or you expand your business to include additional goods or services, a change of registration is required.

Description

A change of registration is required if

  • the location of the business is changed within Munich(relocation).
  • the type/subject matter of the trade is changed
  • the business is expanded to include additional goods or services that are not customary for activities of the registered type

In the following cases, you are welcome to inform us of changes voluntarily:
For example:

  • Cessation of an activity
  • Change of the name of the trader
  • Secondary occupation

Special case: duplicate
You can also apply to us for a duplicate of the re-registration certificate for a fee of 15 euros. Please send us your application by e-mail together with a copy of your ID. You will usually receive the duplicate by post within a week. We will also send you the invoice for 15 euros.
Please note
If an existing company is changed to a new legal form (e.g. by founding a legal entity), a new registration (with simultaneous deregistration of the previous company) is usually necessary. The trade authority will be happy to advise you in individual cases.

Prerequisites

Please use the online business registration.

You can re-register your business online for the following types of company:

  • Sole proprietorship (registered and unregistered)
  • Companies under civil law (GbR)
  • Companies with limited liability (GmbH)
  • Business company (UG also with limited liability)
  • Public limited companies

In other cases, we ask you to submit the business registration by email with the relevant required documents (see "Required documents") or to make an appointment to visit us in person.

If you are expanding the business to include activities that require a licence, please enclose a copy of the relevant licence; for activities in the full skilled trades, please enclose a copy of the trade licence.

Required documents

  • Fully completed business registration form
    (important: indicate the date of the change)
  • Identity card or passport
  • for foreign nationals (except EU countries): valid residence permit for the exercise of self-employment
  • in the case of authorisation: a written power of attorney and identification of the principal and the authorised representative
  • for companies entered in the commercial, association or co-operative register: an extract from the register (with all entries)

Questions & Answers

Two steps are required when relocating to another municipality:

  • Deregistration with the trade authority at the previous location
  • Registration with the trade authority at the new location

Please inform us of the name change in writing by post or e-mail and enclose a copy of the marriage certificate.

Yes, it is possible to extend the previously registered business to an activity outside the industry. It is also possible to completely change the previously registered and no longer exercised activity to a future activity - including one from another sector.
Prerequisite: The permanent establishment remains the same.
