Tender prices for off-spaces

As the operator of a Munich off-space that promotes the local art scene and up-and-coming artists, you can apply for an award.

Course description

since 2019, the City of Munich's Department of Culture has regularly awarded prizes to Munich galleries and off-spaces. Off-spaces make a significant contribution to the promotion and visibility of Munich's art scene and complement the range of galleries and art institutions. They offer artists a platform to work independently, try out their creativity and present experimental works, making off-spaces an important springboard for up-and-coming artists. They promote dialogue with curators, gallery owners and collectors and enable an unbiased perspective on art, beyond institutional or commercial guidelines. Mostly run by artists themselves and with a high level of personal commitment, the focus is on supporting and developing the local art scene. In addition to predominantly non-commercial exhibitions, off-spaces often also host interdisciplinary events, making them open, lively and dynamic places for dialogue and encounters.2025, the City of Munich's Department of Culture awarded three prizes of 6,000 euros each to Munich off-spaces. This award honours the prizewinners' commitment to the local art scene and young artists as well as their role model function for the perception of Munich as a city of art, with a focus on the conceptual work and commitment of the respective institutions in the previous year. The awards therefore honour exhibitions, concepts and projects that have already been completed.
