Apply for a fishing licence

If you want to fish in Bavaria, you need a fishing licence. The prerequisite is reliability under fishing law and passing the state fishing examination.

Description

Anyone wishing to fish in Bavaria requires a fishing licence. The prerequisite for obtaining a fishing licence is reliability under fishing law and passing the state fishing examination.

The fishing licence authorises you to fish in Bavaria. If you want to fish in another federal state, you must find out locally whether your Bavarian fishing licence is recognised there. If you have acquired your fishing licence in another federal state, it is valid in Bavaria until the end of its validity. However, fishing licences from abroad are not recognised.

In order to be able to fish, you not only need a fishing licence, but also the consent of the person authorised to fish (fishing permit).

Fishing licence for tourists:
The issue of an annual fishing licence is only possible for persons who are temporarily staying in Germany without having a place of residence here (tourists). They must provide credible proof that they are authorised to fish in their country of origin (if necessary with an officially certified translation).

Extension:
You can have a fishing licence that is limited to five years extended. You will need the same documents for the extension as for your initial application - with the exception of photos.

Information if you lose your fishing licence:
If you have lost your fishing licence, you should notify us immediately. If the lost fishing licence has already expired, you can apply for a new fishing licence. If it is still valid, you can apply for a duplicate licence.

Note on the state fishing examination in Bavaria:
The examination authority is the State Institute for Agriculture. The organisation of the examination procedure has been transferred to the Landesfischereiverband Bayern e. V. (Bavarian Fishing Association). Under certain conditions, the fishing examinations of other federal states are also recognised
