Permit for rainwater infiltration
If you wish to infiltrate rainwater in a targeted manner, you must obtain a water law permit under certain conditions.
Description
In general, any targeted infiltration of rainwater requires a permit under water law. However, the permit requirement is often waived due to the Precipitation Water Exemption Ordinance (NWFreiV).

The two most common reasons why there is no exemption from the authorisation requirement:
- The area connected to the individual infiltration system exceeds 1,000 m².
- The building site is suspected of being contaminated.
Important: The application does not apply to water protection areas and public roads and squares. The responsible authority here is the Department for Climate and Environment.
if the construction project includes the construction or modification of wastewater pipes with a sewer connection, this and the authorisation of the infiltration system must be applied for together. The application form is designed accordingly.
