Scholarships for fine arts
If you are a visual artist at the beginning of your professional career, the City of Munich will provide you with financial support for a specific work project.
Course description
Every year, the City of Munich awards six scholarships for visual arts, each worth 8,000 euros. The aim of the scholarships is to support artists at the beginning of their professional careers. The grants are awarded on a project basis, i.e. for a specific work project. Artists should be given the opportunity to realise a project with the scholarship that can provide an important impetus for their artistic development. As part of the scholarship programme, a Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize for Fine Arts is also awarded on the recommendation of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, which supports young artists under the age of 30 who have already attracted attention with their artistic work.
The closing date for entries is 4 March 2026, 11.59 pm
The scholarships for visual arts are awarded annually.
Prerequisites
To apply for a scholarship, applicants must have completed a relevant academic programme. Students are not eligible to apply. Applicants must live in the MVV catchment area and their work must be centred in Munich. The artistic quality and feasibility of the submitted projects are decisive criteria for funding. Previous artistic careers are also taken into account when assessing the project.
A jury appointed by the City Council prepares a decision proposal. The City Council decides on the basis of the jury's proposals in a closed meeting.
Only one project proposal can be submitted at a time.
If a scholarship is awarded, a scholarship contract is concluded with the scholarship holder, which also contains the agreements on the final report.
