Three-year funding for cultural education

If you would like to further develop tried and tested participatory projects and cultural education programmes, you can apply for this three-year funding.

Description

Based on the concept of cultural education for Munich, the City of Munich awards funding for three-year cultural education projects and programmes with an estimated maximum total amount of 450,000 euros. The application amount per project is a maximum of 75,000 euros for three years.

the funding is aimed at

  • experienced actors, associations or initiatives in cultural education that are realigning projects or programmes
  • participatory projects and cultural education programmes for all age groups

The funding is aimed at further development, for example

  • Expanding or renewing concepts and methodology
  • Deepen co-operation and practical experience
  • Stabilise and further develop networks and work structures
  • Broadening the range of programmes
  • Removing barriers to participation and reaching new target groups
  • Advancing the qualification and further training of the team
  • Finding additional sponsors and funding models
  • Projects that promote inclusion (the coming together of people with and without disabilities) are particularly welcome!

Application deadline: Monday, 21 July 2025, 11:59 p.m. for the project duration in the financial years 2026, 2027 and 2028. The postmark does not apply, but the date of receipt by the City of Munich (e.g. in the special letterbox at the gate in City Hall).

Prerequisites

Formal requirements:

  • The project takes place with participants from Munich
  • Munich-related: The applicants have their work focus in Munich and the project takes place with participants from Munich (please explain in the project description)
  • Applicants who receive permanent funding from the City of Munich must provide a clear financial demarcation to the City of Munich
  • The calculation is balanced
  • Projects that are conceived and realised under the leadership of state, municipal or district institutions are not eligible for funding. However, applications from the independent scene in co-operation with these institutions are permitted
  • A second application for projects already funded from this budget is permitted; unfortunately, a third application has no prospect of funding
  • The project applied for must include evaluation measures

Note on the annual project calculation
Please note that in the annual calculations, the amount of funding applied for should be recognisable and identical for each year.
The maximum application amount per project for a three-year term is 75,000 euros.

In addition

  • If the project is approved, five meaningful project photos for press and public relations work should be made available to the City of Munich as soon as possible, but no later than with the final proof of use. (Further information will be provided in the event of funding)
  • The funding recipients undertake to participate in the overall evaluation of the funding measure by the Coordination Centre for Cultural Education, for example by answering a digital survey.

  • Please create a meaningful project description including a brief description that can be used by the City of Munich for press and public relations work (publication on websites, press releases, etc.)
  • Please prepare a detailed cost and financing plan. You are welcome to use our sample
  • Applications can be submitted until Monday, 21 July 2025 (23:59) at the latest
  • Please send all complete documents (see page 3 of the application form) by post to the following address

Legal basis

Allocation

  • The allocation of funds is expected to be made by the City Council's Culture Committee in October 2025 on the basis of a joint recommendation from the Cultural Department, the Department of Education and Sport and the Social Department.
  • According to current planning, applicants are not expected to receive feedback on the acceptance or rejection until November 2025 at the earliest.
