Music scholarships

If you are working on a musical project, you can apply for a music scholarship from the city.

Description

Every year, the City of Munich awards six music scholarships totalling 8,000 euros each, one of which is awarded specifically to performers working in the field of children and young people. In addition, a Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize for Music totalling 3,000 euros can be awarded.

These scholarships are intended to support specific, particularly challenging musical projects in the areas of composition, programme development or professional training outside Munich (e.g. through a joint project with foreign musicians or an internship/assistance with a well-known, experienced foreign musician).
Both individual and ensemble scholarships in all musical genres and areas are possible, but with special consideration given to contemporary forms of performance. Applicants (in the case of an ensemble, at least half of its members) must reside within the MVV catchment area and focus their work in Munich.
The scholarships are primarily intended to support younger, not yet established artists. Scholarships are not awarded for projects as part of a course of study or for projects accompanying teaching. A jury appointed by the City Council of the City of Munich draws up the award proposals based on the applications received.
After completing the work made possible by the scholarship, the scholarship holders submit a detailed written report to the Department of Culture.

Please note that productions of music albums or videos as well as release concerts, programme promotions and other event formats in the field of pop music are funded through a separate award procedure and cannot be considered in the context of this call for applications.

Closing date: Thursday, 20 March 2025, 11.59 pm

The music scholarships are awarded annually. The Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize for Music is also awarded.
