Official medical assessment - necessity of a spa treatment (aid)

According to the new legal situation, an official medical report is generally no longer required for an application for rehabilitation or spa treatment.

Description

Following the amendment to the Bavarian Aid Ordinance of 27 August 2024, an official or medical certificate is no longer required to prove the medical necessity of a rehabilitation or spa treatment.

Your responsible aid office requires a medical certificate for a cure and a diagnosis-specific specialist certificate for rehabilitation treatment before the start of a measure.

Please enquire with your competent aid office as to what information the respective certificates must contain.

If the responsible subsidy office expressly requires an official medical certificate, please submit all the documents listed below.

In many cases, an expert opinion based on the file is possible. An examination is often unnecessary, but may be necessary if a final assessment is not possible based solely on the documents submitted.

Prerequisites

Processing or appointments will only be made if the responsible subsidy office expressly requests an official medical certificate. Please submit this certificate together with the other required documents.

Required documents

To register

  • completed questionnaire
  • completed declaration of consent under data protection law
  • the "Medical justification" form completed in full by the treating doctor, in which the spa and the type of treatment requested must be explicitly stated. The costs for the certificate can be claimed from the subsidy office.
  • Document from the aid office stating the need for an official medical opinion with reasons
  • the medical or specialist certificate submitted to the aid office
  • Please provide your full address, date of birth, telephone or mobile phone number, as well as a time slot with information about the applicant's availability

Questions & Answers

What information does an official medical report contain?

In principle, the same strict confidentiality rules apply to medical officers as to doctors providing treatment. The medical reports prepared by the department are limited to a summarised assessment of the examination with close reference to the questions posed in the order. The clients therefore only receive the examination results that they need for their personnel decisions. Everything that goes beyond this (e.g. diagnosis, own and external findings) remains in our records and is subject to medical confidentiality and data protection regulations.
