Registration for secondary school

If your child would like to attend a secondary school, you will find all the important information here.

Description

The secondary school comprises grades 5 to 9 or 5 to 10. Teaching is strongly focussed on vocational content.

Secondary schools or secondary school alliances fulfil the following standards:

  • The three vocationally orientated branches of technology, business and social studies are offered.
  • There is an all-day programme (open or tied).
  • There is a programme leading to the intermediate school leaving certificate (M branch).
  • In addition, secondary schools should work together with a vocational school, the regional economy and the labour administration.
  • The schools in a network should also agree on an educational and technical co-operation concept.

On the website of the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts, you can read how the school types are integrated into the Bavarian school system. You will find the link at the bottom of this page under Forms & Links.

If your child would like to attend year 5 at a secondary school, you do not usually need to enrol them. The secondary school responsible for your place of residence will automatically enrol your child unless you register him/her at another secondary school.

If you would like to enrol your child in a higher class, please contact the secondary school responsible for your place of residence directly.
You can find out which school or school association is responsible for you under Forms & Links "Search for the responsible secondary school". Here you can also see which schools offer all-day programmes, lunchtime supervision, M classes or P classes.

Questions & Answers

What qualifications can my child obtain at secondary school?
  • after the 9th grade: secondary school leaving certificate or qualifying secondary school leaving certificate (Quali)

Where can I find out more about secondary schools?
On the website of the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Science and the Arts, you can find out more about the educational programmes offered by secondary schools and how the different types of school are integrated into the Bavarian school system. Do secondary schools also offer all-day programmes?
Some secondary schools also offer all-day care. If you would like to know whether such an offer is also available at your secondary school, search for your school. To do this, go to Forms & Links and click on "Find responsible secondary school". Here you will be shown under "Care programmes" whether and in what form the school offers all-day care.
