Biodiversity building blocks funding programme
We provide financial support for the implementation of biodiversity building blocks. The funding programme is managed by the municipal biodiversity advisory service.
Course description
As part of the " Biodiversity Building Blocks" funding programme, we support measures such as
- voluntary support for building breeders during a house renovation (further information in the FAQs)
- species-rich wildflower meadows (prerequisite: native seeds)
- species-rich, native herbaceous and shrub plantings
- Nesting and resting places (insects, bats, birds)
- Habitat building blocks (dry stone wall, pond, deadwood and natural stone piles)
- structurally rich and ecologically valuable resident gardens
in principle, up to 50 per cent of the total costs of the measure(s) are reimbursed, in individual cases up to 90 per cent.

Questions & Answers
The biodiversity advisory service will be happy to advise you.
For more extensive projects, it may make sense to commission specialist planners. This can be financed proportionally via the funding programme. If you are unsure, ask our biodiversity advisory service.
- You can draw small measures yourself. The important thing is that we can recognise your idea. This helps us:
- Location in the urban area (drawing in an aerial photograph)
- Information on types, materials, techniques etc. used in the plan
- Size details in the plan
- Example Example action plan
you must enclose three comparative offers with your application. If you only receive one offer from three requested providers, this is alsosufficient in conjunction with the documentation of your two other requests for quotations.
Our offer for you: To ensure that the three offers are as comparable as possible, we will be happy to develop a list of services together with you. You can use this to invite three companies or providers to submit a tender.
we can charge you €12.15 for simple labour or €14.15 for higher-value work. You must state this in your application with an hourly estimate. With your proof of utilisation, you must submit the actual hours spent in a comprehensibly documented manner.
yes, we will generally reimburse you 50% of the costs incurred. To do this, you must submit a where-used list with all invoices. You will receive a template for the proof of utilisation together with your confirmation of inspection for your application.
In principle, all species originating from Munich (area of origin 16 or area of occurrence 6.1.)are eligible for funding.
Due to the different site requirements of the species, it may be that not all species are suitable for your project. We would be happy to look at the desired species and your area for your specific project together with you. Please contact us before submitting your application.
On these pages you will find certified companies and nurseries (not exhaustive)
Seeds
- Association of German Wild Seed and Wild Plant Producers e.V.
Shrubs
- Producer association for autochthonous tree nursery products
Perennials
There is currently no official certification for perennials. However, you can find nurseries offering wild plants on the following websites:
-Thousand Gardens Thousand Species
Please wait for your inspection confirmation from the RKU before starting the measures. The award of the contract already counts as the start of the project. Please allow sufficient lead time for your project and bear in mind that some measures can only be implemented at certain times of the year (e.g. meadow planting only in spring or autumn).
Swifts, house martins, house sparrows and bats find valuable nesting opportunities and habitats in our cities - but these are often lost due to refurbishment measures. With early planning and simple measures, their nesting sites can be preserved.
Get involved and help protect the habitat of these animals! As part of the "Biodiversity Building Blocks" funding programme, we can provide you with financial support under certain conditions.
Funding as part of the "Climate-neutral buildings" programme
If the installation of nesting aids is a voluntary measure and is not required by law as part of a refurbishment project, you can apply for financial support.
