Bus & train escort service

Description

The Bus & Rail Escort Service is available throughout the entire Munich city area. The accompanying person will pick you up at the starting point of the journey at the agreed time. You can recognise them by their appropriately labelled service clothing. The mobility assistants will accompany you to the agreed destination, helping you to buy your ticket, pushing your wheelchair, supporting or guiding you as required.

Interested in volunteering?
Volunteers, including senior citizens, are welcome to join the team of mobility assistants.

About the project
The Department of Labour and Economic Affairs finances the Bus & Rail Escort Service as part of the Munich Employment and Qualification Programme (MBQ). The project is implemented in close cooperation with the Munich Job Centre, Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG), the city's Disability Advisory Council and the Social Department. The project is organised by the Catholic Men's Welfare Association, which deploys older long-term unemployed people as mobility assistants following specialist training.
A customer survey from 2019 shows satisfaction with the Bus & Rail Escort Service: around 80 per cent of those surveyed would use the service at least once a month and 100 per cent would recommend it to others. In December 2019, the city council therefore decided to include the project in the regular funding programme as a social enterprise. In 2020, the Bus & Rail Escort Service provided around 4,500 escorts.
