Species protection - Keeping or selling protected animals
The possession of specially protected species must be registered with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority. The commercialisation of protected species must be applied for.
Description
If you are in possession of a specially protected vertebrate animal, you must register it with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority immediately at the start of keeping in accordance with Section 7 (2) BNatSchG. The animals must also be deregistered immediately after the end of keeping.
Proof of legal origin must be submitted with the fully completed "Inventory notification for specially protected vertebrates" (e.g. copy of proof of origin from the breeder, original EC or CITES certificates).
The marketing of species listed in Annex A of "EC Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 on the protection of species of wild fauna and flora by regulating trade therein" is generally prohibited.
However, you can apply for an EC marketing authorisation from the Lower Nature Conservation Authority. If your application is approved, you will be granted an exemption from the marketing ban.
