Reduced fees for municipal daycare centres

If your child attends a municipal day care centre, you can apply for a reduction in day care centre fees under certain conditions.

Description

The nursery fee consists of the attendance fee and the meal charge. Under certain circumstances, the meal charge and/or the attendance fee may be reduced. For nursery children attending a municipal nursery, you do not usually have to pay an attendance fee. Exceptions are listed in the ‘Nursery Fees Brochure’. In this case, you do not need to apply for a reduction either.

Requirements

You can apply for a reduction in fees if any of the following conditions apply to you:

  • Your gross annual income is less than 80,000 euros. In that case, you can apply for a reduction in the attendance fee. This applies for one financial year (1 September to 31 August). We generally use the income from the year before last to calculate this.
  • You receive child benefit for older siblings. If you have more than one child, you can apply for a so-called ‘sibling discount’ on the attendance fee.
  • You are in a social and educational emergency situation. The childcare fees and meal allowance may be covered in full or in part for one nursery year. The application for this is submitted by the District Social Services (BSA) at the Munich Social Services Centres.
  • You are currently receiving social security benefits. If you or another person with parental responsibility in your household receives basic income support, social assistance, housing benefit, child supplement or asylum seeker’s benefits, you do not have to pay nursery fees. However, you must submit an application to the Central Fees Office.
  • You are fostering a child and receive a fostering allowance. If the City Youth Welfare Office pays you a fostering allowance, you do not have to pay any visitation fees or meal allowances for your foster child. You must submit an application for this. As proof, you must provide the notification of the fostering allowance.
  • You live in shared accommodation. If you live in shared accommodation under Section 53 of the Asylum Act, you do not have to pay a visitation fee for your child. When applying, you must provide proof that you live in the shared accommodation.
  • You live in shared accommodation for mothers*fathers and children or in a women’s refuge. If you live in one of these facilities, you do not have to pay any visiting fees or meal allowances. You must provide proof that you live there when submitting your application.
  • You are applying for financial assistance under the Youth Welfare Scheme. For some people, nursery fees represent too great a financial burden. These people are therefore entitled to financial assistance under the Youth Welfare Scheme (WJH). Examples of such financial burdens include loan repayments, maintenance payments or moving costs. Before you can apply for these benefits, you will need a notice of charges for the nursery fees.
