Fishing wardens - Confirmation of fishing wardens

We can confirm a fishing warden at the request of fishing licence holders, fishing leaseholders or fishing cooperatives.

Description

Tasks/duties

  • Monitoring compliance with legal provisions governing the protection and conservation of fish stocks and the practice of fishing
  • Identifying, preventing, stopping and assisting in the prosecution of relevant offences that are punishable by penalties or fines
  • Notification of fish deaths
  • Visible wearing of a badge when carrying out activities
  • Presentation of the badge upon request during official interventions, if reasonable for safety reasons
  • Issuing certificates of seized property

Authorisations

  • Stopping and entering watercraft from which fishing is carried out
  • Entering properties (not homes and gardens) in the event of official intervention
  • Entering waters (with separate authorisation if necessary)
    • for persons found on, near or in the vicinity of waters with fishing gear
    • Establishing identity
    • Checking the fishing licence/youth fishing licence and permit
    • Inspection of the fishing gear carried and the fish caught (also in vehicles) as well as the fish containers
  • if an offence is suspected in order to prevent or stop it
    • Identification
    • Expulsion from the premises
    • Seizure of fish and other items that have been obtained without authorisation or have been used or are to be used in contravention of legal regulations.

You can only apply for the fishing warden service licence online. You can also upload all the required documents there. Submission by post is not possible.

Prerequisites

  • Age of majority
  • Reliability (certificate of good conduct)
  • personal suitability (certificate of good conduct, separate expert opinion if necessary)
  • professional aptitude (aptitude test at the Bavarian State Institute for Fisheries Starnberg)
  • valid fishing licence

Required documents

  • two current passport photos, approx. 35 x 45 millimetres
  • Certificate of good conduct (not older than three months)
  • Confirmation that you have passed the aptitude test at the Bavarian State Institute for Fisheries in Starnberg
  • Copy of the valid fishing licence
