Women's night taxi

Women are financially supported by a voucher system for taxi journeys between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in Munich.

Description

The voucher system provides financial support for women travelling by taxi at night in Munich. Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., women can redeem a voucher worth ten euros per car journey if they are travelling to a residential address. One voucher can be submitted per journey, even if several women use a taxi together.

The vouchers can be collected by eligible persons from the Citizens Office at Ruppertstr. 19, entrance 19B, the social centres, the city libraries, the Equal Opportunities Office for Women and the City Information Office. Three vouchers can be collected by one woman per visit. The number of visits is not limited.

It was decided to continue the Women*'s Night Taxi on a permanent basis and the municipal subsidy for taxi journeys by women* between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. was increased from the previous 5 euros to 10 euros from 1 January 2024.

Prerequisites

The Women's Night Taxi is aimed at women. This includes trans* women and women with the gender entry "diverse" or non-binary women.

Questions & Answers

The Women's Night Taxi is aimed at women. This includes trans* women and women with the gender entry "diverse" or non-binary women.

No. The Women's Night Taxi is an offer for women.

No. The Women's Night Taxi is an offer for women. It applies to women travelling alone or in a group of women or with their children (under the age of 18).

No. Measures that compensate for an existing disadvantage do not constitute discrimination. This is because women* feel much less safe than men, especially in the evening or at night. The individual fear of crime therefore tends to be more pronounced in women* than in men. This feeling of insecurity may lead to women* avoiding certain situations in which they feel uncomfortable and withdrawing from public spaces at night, with the result that they no longer participate in social life.

The "women's night taxi" institution is suitable for compensating for this disadvantage, at least in part, as it can give women* the feeling that they have access to a safe ride if necessary and counteract avoidance behaviour, which in turn has a positive effect on mobility. As not all women* have the necessary financial means for a taxi, the subsidy for the Women's Night Taxi granted by the City of Munich helps women* to be able to travel at night independently of public transport.

The subsidy does not place a disproportionate burden on men. Taxis will continue to be available to them and their prices will not become more expensive for men because the vouchers reduce the taxi price for women* using the voucher.

The "women's night taxi" scheme is therefore not a violation of the principle of equality.

All yellow taxi vouchers remain valid until further notice, including those valid until 1 January 2021 and 1 January 2024.

The discount has increased to 10 euros per journey from 1 January 2024. This means that the fare for the taxi journey will be reduced by 10 euros. This also applies to the old vouchers of 5 euros that are still in circulation.

One voucher can be redeemed per journey.

The discount is adjusted to the lower fare, i.e. the amount of the discount is identical to the fare. For example, if the journey costs 7 euros, the discount is 7 euros.

In such cases, you can submit the vouchers together with the taxi receipt (original) and your bank account details to the district administration department (Ruppertstraße 19, 80466 Munich) by post for settlement. However, the voucher should not be handed over to the taxi driver in exchange for a discount of 5 euros. If there are any uncertainties with the taxi driver when handing over the voucher, it is always advisable to submit the voucher directly to the KVR for payment of the discount amount of 10 euros.
