BAföG - Application for educational support

Trainees who do not have enough money for their training can apply for training assistance under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG).

Description

To receive BAföG, you must meet the eligibility criteria set out in the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG). The application must be submitted in good time. Financial assistance can only be paid from the start of the month in which the application is submitted. Please note that it may take several months for the application to be processed.

Important information:

  1. Studying in Munich: Are you studying at a university or university of applied sciences in Munich? If so, please contact the Studierendenwerk München.
  2. Studying in Austria: Are you undertaking a higher education course in Austria? If so, please contact the Office for Educational and Career Development of the City of Munich.

Responsibility for school-age children: The Office for Educational Support of the City of Munich (AfA Munich) is generally responsible if your parents live in Munich. In some cases, however, your own place of residence in Munich is the deciding factor for determining responsibility. Furthermore, the AfA Munich is responsible if the specialist academy, evening grammar school or college (including BOS) you are attending is located in Munich.
