Theatre scholarship
If you have achieved initial artistic success in the theatre on the basis of proven professional work, you can apply for a scholarship.
Description
Every year, the City of Munich awards work and further training grants in the field of theatre amounting to a maximum of 8,000 euros. This funding is intended to support further artistic training or the development of a new artistic concept.
The project-related grants are intended to support both younger and established theatre professionals. There is no age limit. The proposals submitted will be assessed by the independent theatre makers' jury.
Information on the application process
Information on how to apply, the required documents, the procedure, the composition of the jury and answers to frequently asked questions can be found under " Links & Downloads".
In principle, applications can be submitted in the previous year until 1 June.
Applications for 2026 can be submitted until 23:59 on 2 June 2025, as the deadline of 1 June 2025 falls on a Sunday.
Legal basis
The applications submitted will be reviewed by the independent theatre and dance jury. The award recommendations are based on the principles and guidelines for the funding of current performing arts from 2026 to 2028. The City Council is expected to decide on the awarding of grants in the dance and theatre sector in autumn 2025 based on the jury's recommendation.
