If you are working on a literary project and live in Munich, you can apply for a working grant for Munich authors.
Description
Every year, the City of Munich awards two working grants, each endowed with 8,000 euros, for literary projects by Munich authors who have already made a name for themselves in the literary world with their work: through publications in publishing houses, readings, awards or reviews. Primarily prose projects of all genres are considered (novels, short stories, novel biographies, literary essays), but ambitious poetry projects are also included in the selection.
The next tender will take place at the beginning of 2025.
Prerequisites
- The author must live in/near Munich (S-Bahn area).
- At least two independent literary works must already have been published(not self-published or published at cost, not as a book on demand or on the Internet).
- The project should be unpublished by the end of the competition year.
- Each applicant may only submit one project.
- Only German-language texts may be submitted.
It is not possible to apply for the working scholarships and the City of Munich's literature scholarships at the same time. Scholarship holdersfrom the previous year are excluded from applying for a working scholarship for the following call.
Required documents
Submission of the following documents in 7 copies, i.e.: seven complete and separate "sets" (each stapled or in transparent sleeves) for the jurors
- Text sample: 30 pages (1800 characters each)
- Exposé of the project
- Biobibliography
- Information on the stage of development of the manuscript, expected total length and planned date of completion/publication, publishing contract if applicable.
Processing time
Applicants will be informed of the result after the decision on the award of the scholarship (usually in September). Applicants are requested to refrain from making further enquiries.
Legal basis
By submitting their application, applicants declare their agreement with the terms and conditions of the competition and confirm that they live in Munich (S-Bahn area). Applications that do not comply with the conditions of the call for applications cannot be considered.
Applicants will be informed of the result after the decision on the award (usually in September). Applicants are requested to refrain from making enquiries. The Department of Culture accepts no liability for the documents submitted. The application documents cannot be returned.
