Disposal of animal carcasses
If you find a stray dead animal on public property, please inform the collection service of the Munich waste management company.
Course description
Dead pets
Dead pets must be disposed of via a rendering plant. Under certain conditions, however, they can be buried in your own garden, buried in authorised pet cemeteries or cremated in pet crematoria.
burying in your own garden
Pet owners can bury their dead animals on their own land, provided they have not contracted a transmissible animal disease. Small dogs, cats, rabbits, dwarf hares, guinea pigs, hamsters and birds must be covered with a sufficient layer of soil (at least 50 cm, measured from the edge of the pit). Burial in water protection areas and in the immediate vicinity of public places and paths is not permitted.
animal crematorium
The Tiertrauer crematorium offers an animal-friendly and dignified last journey for a deceased pet. The Tiertrauer crematorium in the Munich Riem animal shelter supports pet owners. Please enquire about opening hours and prices. Information at www.tiertrauer.de.
Abandoned dead found animals
The AWM has set up its own collection service for abandoned dead found animals on public property (up to the size of a German shepherd dog). If you see a dead found animal on public property in the city area, please inform the AWM.
At night, at weekends and on public holidays (only in emergencies and for difficult recovery measures), please inform the fire brigade by calling 112 or the police by calling 110.
