Cancellation Loss or theft of the eID card

If your lost or stolen eID card turns up, please inform your Citizens Office immediately.

Description

  • The online function of the eID card is blocked when the loss/theft is reported. Online use is then no longer possible until the card is reactivated when you visit the Citizens Office. You will need an appointment for this.
  • If you have your main residence in Munich, you must report the cancellation of the loss/theft report to the Citizens Office. You can do this in writing or in person.
  • If you already have a new eID card, you must return the recovered eID card. You can hand in the card in person at one of our citizens' offices or send it in by post.
  • To be able to use the recovered eID card online again, you must present the eID card in person at a Citizens Office. You will need an appointment for this.
  • If you have activated the electronic signature function, you must also have the electronic signature (QES) unblocked. To do this, you must contact the provider from whom you purchased your signature certificate.
