Renunciation of German citizenship

If you have one or more other citizenships in addition to German citizenship, you can renounce your German citizenship.

Description

You can renounce your German citizenship if you have several citizenships. The renunciation must be declared in writing. The declaration of renunciation is informal and must be authorised by the citizenship authority. Authorisation cannot be granted if you are an active civil servant, judge or soldier in the Federal Armed Forces as long as your employment has not ended. If you are working in an honorary capacity or have been living abroad for at least ten years, the waiver can always be authorised.
