Counselling in shelters - Paediatric care

Course description

Health and paediatric nurses visit families in community facilities for asylum seekers and homeless people. Parents after the birth and families with children up to the age of 6 receive individual counselling on all child-related issues. The service is free and voluntary. We work closely with the local social services and property managers. We are also happy to offer group training sessions and consultations on medical topics.

Counselling topics:

• Support and connection to the healthcare system (e.g. paediatricians, specialists, social paediatric centres or early intervention centres)
• Preventive healthcare, check-ups, dental health and immunisation
• Breastfeeding, complementary foods, nutrition
• Care and feeding of infants and toddlers
• Regulatory disorders (frequent crying, sleep problems)
• Child development and developmental support
• Parent-child interaction
• Accident prevention
• Media consumption
• Information about facilities and services in the neighbourhood
• Referral to early help centres or other support services if required
• Interpreters can be brought in
