Exemption from dog tax - Special tasks

If you keep your dog for professional, commercial, public or charitable purposes, you can be exempt from dog tax.

Prerequisites

Dogs kept for professional or commercial purposes:

  • You keep your dog primarily for professional or commercial purposes, private ownership is of clearly secondary importance.
  • Your dog is essential for your profession or business, you cannot fulfil your tasks without the dog.

Dogs with a public or charitable purpose:

  • You keep your dog solely to fulfil your duties, keeping it privately is of completely secondary importance.
  • The dog must be permanently available for its task.

Required documents

We will be happy to advise you before you submit your application as to whether an exemption is possible in your case and which documents you need to submit. As a rule, you will need an informal letter of application with details of the reasons for keeping the dog and suitable evidence of the dog's use. Please also state your telephone number in the application letter so that any queries can be clarified quickly.
