Authorisation of work on Sundays and public holidays

Employers who require authorisation to employ staff on Sundays and public holidays must apply for this.

Description

Employers who require authorisation to employ staff on Sundays and public holidays and whose business premises are located in Munich or Upper Bavaria must apply to the Government of Upper Bavaria, Trade Supervisory Office, Heßstraße 130, 80797 Munich.

According to the Public Holidays Act, publicly noticeable work that interferes with public holidays is prohibited on Sundays and public holidays.

Tradespeople would therefore also have to apply for an exception to this ban from the trade authority of the district administration department. In practice, however, this exception is very rarely granted because the necessary requirements are usually not met.

Required documents

The application for an exemption from the ban on working on Sundays and public holidays must be submitted informally.

We recommend that you enquire by telephone in advance to clarify whether you fulfil the requirements for such an application.
