Loss or theft of eID card
If your eID card is lost or stolen, there is some information to bear in mind. You can find it here.
Description
When the loss/theft is reported, the online function of the eID card is blocked. Online use is then no longer possible until it is reactivated when you visit the Citizens Office.
If the lost or stolen eID card reappears, please inform your Citizens Office immediately. You can do this in writing or come by in person.
The reason for this is that all lost or stolen ID cards are listed in the police's Inpol property search. The Citizens Office, in co-operation with the police, must cancel the search as soon as the eID card has been recovered.
If this is not done, the eID card can no longer be used.
You must appear in person to reactivate the eID function after it has been blocked. To do this, you must make an appointment at one of the citizens' offices.
- If you have your main residence in Munich, you must report the loss/theft of your eID card to the Citizens Office. You can do this in writing or in person. It is advisable to report the loss or theft to the police. You need an appointment to visit our citizens' offices.
- You must have the online ID function (eID function) blocked immediately by calling the emergency number 116 116 (available around the clock). Misuse can only be prevented if the eID function is blocked.
- Please inform the Citizens Office as soon as possible. We can also arrange for it to be blocked.
- If you have activated the electronic signature function, you must also have the electronic signature (QES) blocked. To do this, you must contact the provider from whom you purchased your signature certificate.
