BAföG - Fachakademie
Are you attending a specialised academy in Munich and would like to apply for a training grant?
Description
If you attend a specialised academy, you may be eligible for training assistance (BAföG) or upgrading training assistance (AFBG).
The basic requirement is
534 euros per month if you live with your parents.
855 euros per month if you do not live with your parents.
If you are not covered by family health and long-term care insurance (with proof!), this amount may increase.
Prerequisites
You must attend a specialised academy in Munich.
From the fifth semester onwards, educational support can only be granted if you can prove that you have achieved the usual performance at the end of the fourth semester (§ 48 Para. 1 BAföG).
In principle, each educational institution decides for itself what constitutes normal performance after four semesters.
Half of the educational support is granted as a grant and half as a loan. The loan is usually repaid five years after the end of the course with a monthly instalment of 130 euros. To repay the loan, please contact the Federal Office of Administration in Cologne. You will find the contact details under "Forms and links".
Please note that you can also apply for funding under the Upgrading Training Act (AFBG, Aufstiegs-BAföG) to attend the specialised academy. This takes the form of a full grant (does not have to be repaid). Possible criteria can be found under "Questions and answers", further information on the AFBG can be found under "Forms and links".
The parents' income from the calendar year before last is taken into account in the calculation.

Questions & Answers
Which is more favourable for me: Upgrading BAföG or student BAföG?
This is an individual decision in each individual case.
Decision criteria can be: parents' income or periods of employment for possible parent-independent funding, amount of own assets, course and examination fees (only in the AFBG), marital status (due to supplements), grant or loan portion. Let us advise you.
