Art in public space - Annuale

If you are realising freely accessible art projects in public urban spaces, you can apply for the "Art in Public Spaces" competition.

Description

Art in public spaces competition for project applications of up to 15,000 euros on the theme

"Zero hour? How we became what we are."

As part of a city-wide programme on the post-war period in Munich entitled "Zero Hour? How we became what we are", the programme focuses on questions that are still relevant today: What is the relationship between democracy, immigration and remembrance? How can authoritarian structures be overcome and a better democracy created? After the end of the war in 1945, Munich was a city on the move. It became a place for survivors, refugees, displaced persons and members of the American armed forces, as well as for Germans returning from exile. The projects are intended to address the changes and continuing structures of urban society after 1945, particularly with regard to democracy, culture(s) of remembrance, displacement and ideology. How does a city society that is in part newly composed deal with what the people of Neumünchen have "brought with them", with their origins, culture and experiences? What can be brought in, what still has an impact today? Which memories are overlooked? Who is included in the memory and who is not? How can we learn from the past in order to better understand and shape the present?
